The Weight of Crosses Bring Strength of Faith and Choices of Freedom

Presently, many are feeling the weight of their crosses. CoVid and the resulting fallout combined with individual’s usual daily and yearly life challenges, have left many feeling exceptionally burdened with stress. What can we ultimately choose? Our attitude and perspective. We many perceive circumstances dire, however, we can choose to reframe our viewpoint. This week a friend of mine said, “I’ve chosen to take responsibility for myself. I can’t control anyone else and above all I need to focus on not analyzing and demanding of others that they meet my expectations but think of how I am reacting and defer to unconditional love as my initial filter.” This attitude requires patience, forgiveness and surrender. It requires walking in faith: letting go letting God.

On that note, this week has been filled with somewhat intense stress as we work through some “good” business problems. This is layered with the relief that US politics seem to be settling down and new strategies are being implemented to fight CoVid, resulting in us feeling a surge of relief combined with fatigue.  My desire to blog was at a minimum, hence I decided to resurrect and edit a poem I wrote in 2008. This poem celebrates that our hearts are gifts from the creator. These treasures rhythmically propel us to make choices. Our choices are either strengthening or debilitating. Our hearts are the intersecting point in all of us, that creates the flow of life through our cross shaped bodies.

Here is one of my simplistic stick figures to illustrate the point

May we all choose to follow the beat of our heart drums with optimistic love and celebrate the strength building challenges.

Here is the poem….I titled it at the end.

Life waiting silent still
Rumblings at the epicenter, gradually are cultivated
An avalanche of anticipation, building to a crescendo
At the core, a fusing soul
Rising resolve spawning proliferation
Like cold water skimming hot oil
A crackling dance, seemingly out of control
Yet with full intent, the Creator’s grace filled hand
Lovingly perfectly sculpts each being
Implanting a pulsing gift.
Some say golden
Some say shiny
Some say heavy

Two perpendicular ribbons wrap this treasure.
Gently these arterial lines grow
Delivering the cross of life.

Their extension offers stability, centering and ultimately freedom
The length drags behind holding yin
The crossing bar reaches with love, yang
The mystical intersection rhythmically pounds
Delivering majestic empowering drive
The mighty beat creates impetus, calling us to choose.
Do we shift forward, reverse or rest?
Resistance slows…. simmering…. strain… stress…
Fatigue beckons to sleep, ignore or freeze….
YET…
Momentum, energy and playful exuberance births synergy
As training strengthens the spirit like a marathon runner.

Whirling endorphins slowly shift
The finish line seems like an eternity
Truth is it arrives in a flash
Perception – reality?!
Blackness is overshadowed by the white iridescent glow of joy
Conquering challenges
The cross is no longer a burden
Miraculously found purpose, confidence, competence
En-joy-ment coupled with enthusiasm become happiness
Did we ever doubt Our Father would grace us with the gift of joy filled love?
Did we refuse to open and explore our holy treasure?
Or leave it wrapped pretty, heavy and tight?
